Truth and Reconciliation Commitment (TRC)

After review of the feedback gathered from staff on the system Indigenous Education Day on November 9, our TRC commitment is finalized and has been shared with our community via the school website and at School Council. It is below:
In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Woodlands School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2023-2024 school year: Staff and students commit to building their capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect by: growing our circle practices, exploring guiding literature, learning from Elders and Knowledge Keepers and engaging in land-based learning. In making our commitment, Call
to Action #63 offered inspiration.
In alignment with this commitment, we have arranged our school to connect with Elders and Knowledge Keepers this school year. These include:
• Grandmother Turtle Teachings
• Traditional Indigenous Games
• Drumming and Storytelling
