There are many ways you can contribute to our school’s success, and make a difference for our school and our students. In our school, this can include providing in-kind donations, contributing cash and lending expertise and technical knowledge. Connect with our principal on what may be appropriate. Volunteer at Woodlands School’s Casino Fundraiser!
- Support Woodlands School · Casino events raise thousands for essential programs, classroom resources.
- It’s Easy & Social · No experience needed. Meet great people, enjoy snacks, and help your community.
- Professional Perks · Volunteering looks great on a resume and builds teamwork skills.
How It Works:
- Volunteer for shifts: The school council recruits volunteers to work various roles at a licensed casino on a specific date.
- Receive a portion of proceeds: In return for providing the volunteers, the council receives a portion of the casino’s profits from that event.
- Long waiting periods: There are often long wait times (1.5 to over 3 years) to be assigned a casino event, as there are more charitable groups than available casino slots.
- Volunteer commitment is crucial: If the school council cannot provide enough volunteers to fill all the required shifts, they will not receive any of the funds generated that day.
- Use of funds: The money raised is used to fund school programs, events, and activities, which can be crucial for things like technology and extracurriculars.
Key Facts:
- Fundraising model: This is Alberta's unique charitable gaming model where organizations get a share of casino revenue by providing volunteers.
- AGLC oversight: The AGLC licenses and assigns these casino events to eligible charitable organizations, including school councils.
- Volunteer-driven: The entire system depends on the willingness of volunteers to staff the event, making volunteer recruitment a critical part of the fundraising effort.
- Monetary goal: A single casino event can raise anywhere from $40,000 to over $70,000 for the school council.
- Where & When: Deerfoot Inn & Casino · February 22nd & 23rd
