One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
School councils perform an important advisory role at schools. They help ensure the parent and community perspective is represented in school decision-making. In addition, school councils share information about the school with the community. The actions of the school council must reflect the expectations and beliefs of the school community.
The purpose of the School Council as established in 1981 is to support our school; to be a liaison between home, school and community; to do fundraising activities; and provided feedback for school policies. By attending the monthly meetings you can become aware of what is happening in the school and become involved in our dynamic learning community. Please come and share your ideas with us.
Woodlands School Council welcomes all members of Woodlands School who are interested in joining the council executive in any role, or those who just want to listen, learn, and be part of sharing ideas about our school.
