Attendance Line: 403-777-8640 ext. 1

At Woodlands School one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely to school. To enhance our existing absence check procedure, we invite you to email or call us to report a late or absent student. Emails can be sent to woodlands@cbe.ab.ca or call our attendance line. Please do not call the office directly, as the mornings are very busy in the main office.

If your child will be away for several days for any reason, emailing or calling the school with dates of absence is recommended. When a student is away on an extended leave of two weeks or more, an Extended Absence Form must be completed by a legal guardian.

Lates & Absences

At Woodlands School, we encourage students to attend regularly and be on time. Students should arrive at school between 10 to 15 minutes before the morning bell when teachers are supervising students on the playground. Students are asked to use their designated doors to enter the school when the bell rings, late entry is through the main doors.

The front doors are to be used by our staff, volunteers, visitors, and students arriving late after the morning bell due to medical or other appointments. In an effort to encourage students to arrive on time, all students entering the school using the front doors after the morning bell will be marked late.

Minimizing Classroom Interruptions

In order to minimize classroom interruptions and disruption to our student learning, we ask that parents please abide by the following:

  • Ensure students arrive to school on-time and are ready to learn.
  • Ensure that students have all their belongs with them to start the day such as backpacks, lunches, mittens, hats, boots, permission forms, etc. Learn more about cold weather days.
  • Please make end of the day arrangements at home before students leave for school. Calling the school to leave messages for students regarding where to meet, where to go, or who to go with presents challenges for the office and can create confusion. If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late picking up students please try to make alternative arrangements with family and friends. Office staff, teachers and administration often have meetings and other commitments after school.
  • Plan to sign students out in the main office for doctor, dentist, and other appointments. Leave yourself extra time, as students can take their time organizing their items to leave. Phone calls to the office to have students waiting for parents when they arrive is not necessary with proper time management.
  • Woodlands School is a secure building. Only staff, students, and volunteers are permitted in the school proper during regular school hours. Learn more about our School Security.

Contacting Teachers

  • Messages
Can be sent via email at the beginning of the day. Please don’t send an urgent email at the end the day, as teachers are teaching and not checking their email.
  • Appointments
Can be made in advance for a mutually agreed time and day via email.
  • Learn about other Ways to Get Connected

Please help by being respectful of our teacher’s time and the learning of all our students. Woodlands School is a welcoming, inclusive, respectful, safe and caring community with the support from everyone.

Attendance Expectations at the CBE

Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
